Transportation to Employment

The AtJ Program provides assistance to eligible DTA recipients with three different transportation options: transit, car ownership and ridesharing.

We use a “transit first” approach because public transportation is the most cost-effective way to commute to work and certainly the most sustainable in the long term. AtJ evaluates whether a DTA recipient can take transit to work. This makes sense, with the average cost of a transit trip by bus at $1.25, the goal is to ensure that customers can afford to pay for their transportation after the AtJ subsidy ends, thereby enabling the recipient to continue to get to their job.

Procedure

  • The DTA case worker or DTA designee faxes a signed CVTR form to the statewide Operations Manager.
  • A completed CVTR form is evaluated by AtJ to determine if the recipient can use public transit to get to work and child care, if necessary.
  • If the recipient can take public transit, they will receive Commuter Checks with a total value equal to the cost of taking public transit not to exceed $80 per month for six months. If the recipient’s case is closed, Commuter Checks will be sent each month for up to six months from the recipient’s case close date.
  • Recipients who participate in the Transit/Commuter Check program must fax or mail a copy of their most recent pay stub by the 15th of each month to the Operations Manager to document their employment status.
  • Recipients who cannot take transit to work will be placed in the car ownership or rideshare program.
  • Only current DTA recipients who are employed or about to be employed (within 30 days of the request) may be eligible for the car ownership program. Please follow this link for an explanation of the program. More Info
  • AtJ helps recipients, who are not able to use public transit or the car ownership program, form rideshare (carpool) arrangements to get to work.
  • AtJ also sends a confirmation of processing the request to the caseworker.
